Like a postage stamp

“Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there.” -Josh Billing

I am not like a postage stamp. But I need to be. I’m like a butterfly- I float from one thing to the next. I get the job done but I’m often doing multiple things at one time. I used to think this was a great method- everything got done- and usually everyone was satisfied because I was working on whatever it was I told them I was going to do/help with. This practice is crap. This is not effective and most of all it has gotten to the point where it is tiring. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that I’m not young or in college anymore. I’m not old- but sitting behind a desk 45 hours a week doesn’t really allow for me to accomplish multiple tasks at a time anymore.

What I really think this quote means though is that I need to resume my hobbies. I need to finish the cover to the Winning #3 DVD case and then I need to pick up the next film project until I can justify doing that full time and not working a job that doesn’t further my goals just so that I can have some spending cash. Don’t get me wrong, my job is great, it’s very rewarding. It’s also very stressful- and I would rather be stressed out by something that I really want to do.

Anyway, speaking about sticking to something, I originally started writing this post in mid December. It’s now March. That’s how terrible I am at this blogging thing. Good thing I blog and write for myself and not others.

So here’s my goal to myself- start finishing things. Start working on things that are worth finishing. Don’t take on projects/tasks/whatever that aren’t worth my time and that will benefit me or make me a better person. I know that sounds a little selfish, but understand that I already give more to others than I do to myself. And most importantly, believe that I can do whatever I put my mind to. I encourage you to do the same.

xoxo
