“The Problem with Fairy Tales”

Snow-White-disneyGossip Girl: The problem with fairy tales is that they set a girl up for disappointment. In real life, the Prince goes off with the wrong Princess. Or the spell wears off and two lovers realize they’re better off as… well, whatever they are. But I’ll confess. Every once in awhile a girl craves her fairy tale ending.

Happy Wednesday readers. I haven’t posted any words of wisdom in a long time and I need to get back in to my good habits. So here we go.

I hope you all are having a great Wednesday. I’m writing this late Tuesday night and it’s been pretty rainy and chilly. Perfect snuggle weather. Too bad only my puppy wants to snuggle with me. She’s great. If you ever want someone to love you unconditionally, get a dog. I even gave her a bath today (which she hates, but then I gave her a big treat) and she still wanted to snuggle with me. Even when my boyfriend has food she still decides she wants to cuddle. I used to think having a cat was the best. (My cat wasn’t like any other cats that ignore you. Fuzzie always wanted to be by me.) However, once I met Maggie my perspective on dogs changed. My dog is the absolute best. Anyway, I digress.

Let’s talk about fairy tales. I watched a lot of Disney movies growing up. So I really did think that the Princess ended up with the Prince. They overcame all obstacles to be with the one they loved. Growing up I always thought of myself as a Princess- and I knew that one day my Prince would come along.

Then I grew up.

And the Princess does not always end up with her Prince. Talk about disappointment. Because I will tell you what, this Princess wants to end up with her Prince Charming. I want the nice house and they two kids and solid marriage happily ever after. I’m tired of my Prince going off with the wrong girl.

Now I hold nothing against Disney- I just real life was more like Disney movies than like what it really is. Princes’ fought for the Princess’ honor against dragons and witches and evil stepmothers. Good always triumphed over evil. And except in the case of Cinderella (who wasn’t a princess to begin with-sorry, Sarah) they didn’t have to work and got to do whatever the heck they wanted. I want to do whatever the heck I want! There was no social media and evil gossip and rumors to worry about. Times were simpler in Disney movies.

Either way, I know I need to make my own happy ending. But that doesn’t mean that this girl doesn’t want her Prince Charming to come along and sweep her off her feet.
