“Seek what they sought”

“Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise, seek what they sought.” – Matsuo Basho

Happy Wednesday everyone! I want to get back in to a regular swing of things so I’m going to make every effort to get this post out as well as one for Friday and all other days going forward. Fingers crossed that I’m able to keep up.

Anyway, here’s to today. And here’s to this awesome quote. I happened upon it my sophomore year of college when I was in a theatre class. Since then it has stuck with me, although at times I forget its importance. Following in the footsteps of great people doesn’t make you great; it makes you an imitator. It’s far better to go after your dreams and make them come true. Everyone can be a follower, it takes a special kind of person to be a great leader and motivator.

Speaking of being a leader and motivator I keep getting all these rave reviews at work about how I’m a team leader but I’m probably not going to get promoted to leadership because when people get upset and frustrated I apparently get upset as well and raise my voice. I wasn’t aware of this but I could see it being true- after all, people are idiots. And sometimes, if you are an idiot and you are ACTING like an idiot, you deserve to be treated like an idiot.

So I’m going to start seeking what leaders sought, which is not not treating people like they’re an idiot, but instead I’m going to start focusing on my long term plan. My film company. Fixing my house up. Getting back in shape. Being happy. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that people aren’t perfect. Leaders aren’t perfect. We all struggle but it’s how you react and get back up that determines the potential of your greatness. And I’m ready to be great.

xoxo
