I used to love Taylor Swift. Key word being used to – but I have to say, Tay has made a little bit of a comeback. With her new hit song, Shake it off, followed up by Blank Space, she may turn me back in to a fan. Let the record show that the very first concert I ever went to was Taylor Swift opening up for Rascal Flatts.
Taylor’s love life is well known by everyone, even those living under rocks, and I think she finally hit the nail on the head this time. The majority of her songs are about being in love or heartbroken due to those relationships. Finally, she writes one about what I’d call the middle. She fully admits to having been in lots of relationships, but any guy getting in to a relationship with her has to know her history and therefore I don’t think she can be fully to blame.
In case you haven’t heard the song:
Nice to meet you, where you been?
I could show you incredible things
Magic, madness, heaven, sin
Saw you there and I thought
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake
Love’s a game, wanna play?
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain’t it funny, rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let’s be friends
I’m dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I can make the bad guys good for a weekend
So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way too far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
But I’ve got a blank space, baby
And I’ll write your name
Cherry lips, crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You’re the King, baby, I’m your Queen
Find out what you want
Be that girl for a month
Wait, the worst is yet to come, oh no
Screaming, crying, perfect storms
I can make all the tables turn
Rose garden filled with thorns
Keep you second guessing like
“Oh my God, who is she?”
I get drunk on jealousy
But you’ll come back each time you leave
‘Cause, darling, I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream
[chorus]
Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t say, I didn’t warn ya
Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t say, I didn’t warn ya
And then she repeats the chorus a handful of times. But really, let’s look at this video. It’s amazing. Her clothes are perfect and very Gatsby-esque- which is an immediate win in my book. The guy is a hottie and Tay gets to do what all women wish they could do after a breakup: smash his car, stab a cake, have mascara running down their face and still look gorgeous and cut up/burn his clothes. Oh, and have we talked about the house. I want that life – the house, the car and the clothes. It may just be a video but music video Tay really messed up!
So ladies, just remember when a relationship is over – there’s always another guy – so cry your eyes out and go crazy – because people will talk anyway. Might as well give them something to talk about.
