The Start of Wedding Season

Summer has started and as such, the beginning of wedding season. My boyfriend and I attended our first wedding last evening. I also have had a few Facebook friends who have tied the knot in the last few weeks. This leads me to think about a few things:

1- my own wedding- or lack there of. I always thought I would be married when I was 24- that time is fast approaching and I’m not even engaged. Am I’m not one to rush the planning for what will be one of the most glamorous days of my life- I’d like to be engaged for about a year and a half. So my boyfriend needs to get crackin! Especially since everyone keeps asking when we’re getting engaged…so if he asks any of you about a ring, I have included images below that you can refer him to!

2- children at weddings and receptions. This really could be included in the first thought because I personally don’t want children at my wedding. Not that I don’t love kids, but there is a time and place for everything. At the wedding we were at there were kids misbehaving and screaming during the ceremony and at the reception they were running around and bumping in to people. I brought this up at the reception to some friends who were completely shocked-appalled even- at my statement. They believed that I would alienate a bunch of friends and family members. I feel like this is one of the primary reasons for babysitters. At a wedding I was at in December, the parents let the child puke during the wedding. So not only was the poor child dragged to the wedding, it was forced to stay there because the parents didn’t want to leave. Again, babysitter. I’m interested in other people’s thoughts on the issue. Kids are cute and all and draw people on to the dance floor, but I feel like they are something that I will choose to pass on as attendants at my wedding.

3- bridesmaids dresses- I understand when you’re the bride you want to be the most beautiful woman at the ceremony. However, I don’t think this means you should choose dresses that are incredibly unflattering on your bridesmaids. The wedding in December was a prime example of this. There were larger women who should not have been wearing that short of dresses. It got to a point where it was actually distracting from the bride and ceremony. Just something to consider…

The Ring from The Great Gatsby. My favorite.
One of the options for a wedding ring that I want. From the Great Gatsby.

Love this ring- from Zales.

The ring Chuck gave to Blair in Gossip Girl, love it.
